- Wait for your renewal window to open
The license renewal window opens 60 calendar days before the license expires. When the renewal window opens, an automated email will be sent to the designated responsible party’s (DRP) email address that’s listed for them in the license record. The DRP can renew the license as soon as the renewal window opens. - Review and update your information
Ownership and financial interest holder verification is required. If changes have occurred, the DRP must notify DCC using this form: Notification and Request to Modify a License Form (DCC-LIC-027). - Gather your Gross Revenue documents
The DRP must select the license’s gross revenue for the 12-month period of the expiring license and then upload documentation supporting the selection. Gross revenue is the license’s total income for the 12-month licensing period before deducting any expenses. Excise taxes, state taxes, and city or county taxes should not be included in the calculation of gross revenue.
Acceptable documentation includes, but is not limited to, a state tax return filed with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, city or county tax filings, or a profit and loss statement. Documents must include the legal business name associated with your license. If you have multiple licenses that share gross revenue calculations, you may apportion the gross revenue between the different licenses in a manner that is reasonable and accurate, given their specific operations.
The gross revenue selected during renewal will determine the annual license fee. Failure to report accurate gross revenue may result in disciplinary action. If you pay less than the required amount, you may be required to pay the difference of the licensing fees, plus a penalty equal to 50 percent of the correct licensing fee.
Note: Cultivators license types and Event Organizers are not required to submit gross revenue documentation.
- Submit your license renewal and fee
To ensure timely license renewal, the DRP must complete and submit the renewal, including payment of the license fee, prior to the license’s expiration date. - Post your updated license
Once the license is renewed, download the updated license certificate. Replace the old license certificate with the new one. Post it in a visible place where it can be viewed by state and local agencies. If the licensed premises is open to the public, post your license certificate where it is visible to the public.
